August 2nd, 2026: Food Drive in Herman Hill Park

Justice League of ICT

Join us for our first cross-over event with The Great Plains Renaissance Festival as we all gather to raise funds and collect food donations for the Kansas Food Bank!

Previous food drives have been a success, and we look forward to another success as we team up with The Great Plains Renaissance Festival’s “Knights of the Great Plains”!

There will be two options for contributing – the easiest is online donation, where every dollar you contribute to the Kansas Food Bank will be turned into 4 meals for Kansas families! It easy, and efficient!

(The Link will be here shortly)

Additionally, we’ll be hosting an in-person food drive – the details are:

December 14th, Noon – 4 PM
Herman Hill Park
101 E Pawnee St, Wichita, KS 67211

We call on anyone who’s interested in donating to show up with your food supplies at Herman Hill Park – just look for the pop-up tent we’ll be operating from on the East side of the park (we’ll have some yard signs out to help you find it)

What can you donate? (Guide provided by the Kansas Food Bank)

  • Canned in light syrup or dried: peaches, pears, oranges, apples, applesauce, fruit cocktail, raisins, pineapple, cranberries, 100% fruit juice
  • Low sodium canned: corn, peas, carrots, beets, green & wax beans, mixed vegetables, sweet potatoes/yams, tomatoes and tomato sauces, soup
  • Healthful Grains: whole-grain crackers, brown rice, whole grain pasta, oatmeal, whole wheat flour, cornmeal, whole-grain breakfast cereal
  • Protein Foods: canned or dried beans (kidney, navy, pinto, garbanzo, great northern, black), canned chicken, nuts ( walnuts, pecans, peanuts, almonds), nut butters
  • Dairy: nonfat dry milk, evaporated milk, shelf-stable (UHT) milk

What not to donate:

  • Bulk goods like 50lb bags of rice, flour, sugar
  • Bottled Water
  • Items in glass containers
  • Perishable items that require refrigeration

We’re looking for folks to come help receive food and put donations in boxes. If we have enough folk, it will be easy and we’ll just take turns getting it all done 🙂

We’re are also inviting anyone who just wants to hang out for a bit to join us. You’re welcome to come in your favorite cosplay, or show up in ‘normal’ clothes we’re out there! If you show up in cosplay, we definitely want to get some pictures of you while you’re there 🙂 We will have hot chocolate to share if it’s a cold day.

Justice League of ICT

Our first event with local PBS station, KPTS Channel 8. If you’re a geek, you might wonder what KPTS & PBS has to do with Sci/Fi and pop culture. If you’re an old geek, you might remember that KPTS was where so many Kansan’s were introduced to Dr Who and similar sci/fi programs back in the 80’s!

This was the event just before we set up the Justice League of ICT name. KPTS trained us, fed us, and we all had a fun time being our usual geeky selves – the crew was (as pictured in order below)

Timmothy York, Katherine Eppich Catlin, The Dude, and Leah Hanson
